■Title

The End of Japanese Cinema? Into a New Media Ecology after 1960.

■Abstract

There was a constant sense of crisis around Japanese cinema from the 1960s into the 2000s. Yet arguably film in Japan is more diverse and vibrant than ever before. How did film, and the film industry, react to the severe problems it faced from 1960 onward? This talk will sketch a brief history of recent film from Japan.
